In Memory of Jack Whitten

We were deeply saddened to learn that the artist Jack Whitten died on January 20. Jack Whitten’s is represented in Tate’s collection and his paintings were included in Tate Modern’s “Soul of A Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power,” exhibition which opens this month at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. In this Tateshots film made last year at Tate Modern, Jack Whitten reflects on his painting Homage to Malcolm, a tribute to Malcolm X. The painting is promised to Tate by Pamela J Joyner and Alfred J Giuffrida. Click here to watch the video: http://www.tate.org.uk/art/videos/tateshots/jack-whitten-2
